Rosettes

These charming ribbon rosettes can be used to make a Mothers/Fathers/Grandparents Day gift; as a birth anouncement; or for an animal lover.

Need:-

  • cross stitched design on a 5x5in piece of fabric

  • 3in flexi-hoop

  • 11/2 metres of 11/2 in wide ribbon

  • 12in of 1in wide ribbon

  • Circle of felt approx 3in round

  1. Mount your cross stitch design in the flexi-hoop, but do not add the backing felt at this stage.

  2. Stitch together the two short ends of the wider ribbon, right sides facing and run a gathering stitch along the INSIDE edge on the WRONG side of the ribbon (begin at the seam). Secure the thread at one end leaving the other end loose.

  3. Gather the ribbon to fit the solid INNER ring of the hoop, secure the thread and adjust the gathers for an even fit.

  4. Secure the ribbon to the fabric at the back of the hoop.

  5. Using the narrower ribbon, cut it in half and place one piece over the other at an angle at the back of the hoop and attach with a couple of stitches. Cut the ribbon ends into "forks" by cutting a ^ shape into them.

  6. Finally, place the piece of felt over the back of the hoop and stitch it in place catching the edges with tiny stitches.
